Fire Cast in Glass...

Enamel art is the reflection of fire in glass. Glass particles, prepared with a unique recipe for each colour, are ground in a mortar, nourished with water, and fired. Art is born from this paradox: glass is fragile, water and fire are enemies. But when alchemy enters the equation, glass and silver become one. Colours are sealed into the heart of the metal never to fade again — they resist time.

Every piece made with enamel is unique. Because everything changes inside the kiln. The process is neither fully controlled nor entirely chance… And that is precisely where alchemy begins: even with the same recipe, every second, every degree creates a new colour. Pigments, like metals, are materials in the hands of the designer… The Picta Collection is my canvas.

The Collection's Inspiration: Pigments

Colour is the emotion of a moment, the soul of a place, a faithful witness to a memory. Every experience, every scene that leaves its mark on our lives has a colour. When we search our memory to remember, the colour appears first — then the moment itself… Sometimes we seek a colour to adorn and complete a scene. In that search, we remember that we are not the object of that scene, but its subject. Pigments are a source of inspiration.

The Collection's Language: Alchemy

Alchemy is a mysterious discipline stretching from antiquity to the birth of modern science, aimed at transforming matter, purifying the soul, and unlocking the secrets of the universe. It was not merely a primitive precursor to chemistry, but a spiritual and experimental tradition in which medicine, philosophy, astrology, mysticism, and metallurgy intertwined. It had two fundamental pursuits:

  • The Great Work (Magnum Opus): Transforming base metals (lead, copper, etc.) into gold — the purest and most perfect of all metals.
  • The Elixir of Immortality: Finding the Philosopher's Stone (Lapis Philosophorum) — said to cure all illness, restore youth, and grant eternal life.

In its philosophical dimension, alchemy is the endeavour to transform one's own inner rawness (the leaden state) into maturity and wisdom (the golden state) through the crucibles of hardship.

I do find it pleasing to liken enamel to alchemy, and the enameller to the alchemist…

I want the works of this collection to turn light into colour, and colour into something singular: unrepeatable, labour-intensive, wholly its own — and awaited each time with excitement. Each piece is, in a way, a dream catcher…

"Fire leaves something behind in place of what it takes. I have tried to capture its reflection in silver."
